In December Leila found me through a friend of a friend and contacted me to work together. Leila is originally from Iran but lives in London and had decided to pass lockdown in Greece and built her ‘make-at-home’ flatbread company idea.
Living in London for the last 10 years, this warm, safe feeling of home is just what she missed. Baking flatbread became a serious dream ever since, and she has been collecting family recipes from the Middle East and North Africa which are so tasty and super easy to make. she wanted others to experience the same emotions of joy and that’s why she created Bake2Explore.
The Bake2Explore kits she created can be used to make all kinds of delicious flatbreads from around the world: Taboon from Palestine, Kisra from Soudan which tells the stories of the women who shared their recipes, providing an insight into their daily lives and the cultures that shaped them.
We brainstormed together and I consulted her on what I thought would help her brand be presented in the best possible way. The first part was the styling and photo-shooting of the process, ingredients and preparation of the flatbreads as well as the final flatbreads. And secondly a video presentation introducing Leila, the person behind Bake2Explore, talking about the flatbreads and background story. This would create engagement and invite people to try out her flatbread making kits.
We did everything in a day, and was the first time I used artificial lighting for a professional shoot. Having to direct, take the video shots, set-up the lights & record the sound and at the same time do the food and prop styling and take the final photographs was a bit hectic but fun. Also, I hadn’t done any video editing in years, and this one was quite intricate, and a few things were completely new to me.
Overall, I am very happy I helped someone visualize their idea and hopefully help Leila start her business as well presented as possible.
